I think it's a bit simplistic to see it like that

we'll never know what would have happened with Lambert - and if second season syndrome would have happened. He hasn't really been able to turn around a bad run of form at Villa, and it's difficult to know how he would have replaced Holt.

I think Hughton's achievement in finishing 11th last season is still very much under-rated.
