I think we massively over-achieved in both of the previous two seasons

given the quality of the players. This season, the core of the team were starting to get past their best or lost form (Holt, Hoolahan, Pilks) we took a few gambles on good players from lower quality leagues and most haven't paid off.

So I agree, most of our players simply aren't very good, and I'm far from convinced that Mackay, Lennon, Solskjaer or whoever else was suggested, would have done much better.
