Right first things first....

That budget is not going to get you much if it includes a lens too. If not then I would go for a used Canon 5Dmk2 which she may well pick up for a tad over that budget. Lens wise spend the most you can afford, it's all in the glass as they say. More importantly and I apologise if it's been mentioned and amazed if not, What does she like to shoot??? That makes a huge difference. Also ignore the Canon v Nikon crap, that just shows people don't know what the frig they are talking about. Give us more info and we should be able to help.
