...Looking likely they'll be facing a THIRTEENTH season in the graveyard division, where Prem dreams live an eternal halflife, whilst they've been predicting our inevitable demise for the last three seasons only to be cruelly denied each year. We're just teasing them now, coming ever so close, which is frankly just unsporting of us. I'm ashamed of our behaviour.

Unless I'm not and I don't give an eff about them and their inferiority complex. I'm 35 in the summer, so was born in the close season before '79/'80 and the last of their big three nostalgia trip came before my 2nd birthday. All they've managed since is to win the 2nd tier in time to join the new Prem. I came around towards the end of their admittedly impressive 18 year run in the top flight, but in my lifetime they've had 12 top flight seasons, so almost two thirds in the 2nd tier. For comparison we're edging top flight to 2nd tier in my lifetime: 18 seasons inclusive to 16 2nd & 1 in the 3rd. Poor sub 31 year old Scummers just have to live off parents' memories and VHS conversions on YouTube.

Anyway, enough about them: we've got a big game against the top English team, because we're dining at the big boys' table...
