You could get a much better spec'd tablet for your ?500

but if an ipad is something you have your heart set on, and if you didn't get one, you'd possibly always regret your decision.

The thing to remember with the ipad is the memory is non-expandable, so on that basis I'd go for the biggest my money could stretch to. I also wouldn't consider anything without the retina display.

Given the above, if that was me, I'd stretch the ?500 budget a tad and go for the ipad air 64gb.
