You knew where you were with 10 stubs and a clear set of ballot groups (even if I did feel home season ticket holders got too much priority over regular away travellers that didn't have home sts). All this applying 'just on the off chance' and no guarantee of whether a payment will be taken or not (important for those of us who have to count the pennies, like myself) at point of 'purchase' (application), is far too messy for my liking. Bloody points system too; we used to use the missus' dad's home st number for my away tickets purely for the quid off Cabbage, though also sometimes when demand would exceed supply so I needed a higher group (I'm back playing on Sats these days so am not even a member). Now we HAVE to use his number just to get that 1000 point leg up (for every away game, regardless of demand), so my customer number will stagnate and be of next to no use now. I checked my account online in searching for Fulham tickets and noticed the last activity on it was when I had an away season ticket in League 1.
So like yourself, this new system is gonna mess people around and mean they do things like you did and then have to back track and recoup the unneccessary purchases when it turns out they can have the ticket they wanted in the first place. At least it means my mate can go though! Hang on, just reread your method: so the game was already marked as sold out THEN you rang to get a ticket and they gave it to you yesterday. For someone like me, not used to the new system, it's not very clear that even though it's advertised as sold out, you can still ring the ticket office and (possibly) get a ticket in the away end!!
Yeah I'm up for it but am not going, though I was tempted. The missus and I did Cardiff and Swansea recently so we'll be saving our pennies (mine for some much needed new footy boots - both soft and firm ground pairs!), plus I've been told recently that I've got Liverpool and Arsenal to look forward to as her dad can't do non-Saturday games due to work. So I can add those to the six other home games I had his seat this season. Just the Spurs win and Swansea & Newcastle draws in there, the rest defeats (inc Chelsea, Fulham & Man U).
