FAO Simon OTBC - i still get flashbacks from a RTA I attended as a 'Plod'.....

on Christmas Eve 1995, on the A90 between and Aberdeen where three people were killed.
It was sub zero that day and some old boy stopped on the carriageway because he couldn't see and his windscreen washers were frozen. A biker who was blinded by the low sun, hit the stationary car and was thrown into the carriageway. Said old boy tries to help the biker and they are both hit by several cars in the fast lane whose drivers were also blinded by the sun.
Another driver who swerved to avoid the carnage had a heart attack at the wheel and died as well.
Worst part was, it turned out that the biker and his family had 'sold up' and were emigrating to Australia. His wife and kids were travelling behind him and came upon the accident minutes after it happened.
I'm still haunted every Christmas Eve when I remember one of the kids, a boy of about 7 or 8 who asked his Mum "Will Santa still come tonight Mummy" - poor kid just didn't understand.
So yes, this stuff is traumatic and I can sympathise and anyone who takes this piss, should be f**king ashamed of themselves!
I and others on here can I'm sure relate some awful experiences from our time in the forces, but it happens to ordinary people too!
