Does a sender simply replace a coaxial wire?

I.e. If I plugged it into the back of a Sky HD box, and the Sky HD box also had a coaxial aerial plugged into it for rf signal pass through would it transmit the freeview signal to a receiving tv as well as the sky channel on an rf output?
