Mainly because there is no guarantee that spending an extra 10-20m

would ensure that we would stay up. We have tried to sign betetr quality players for more money (Adlerweireld, Quagliarella, Biglia, Ranocchia) and they are not interested in coming. So we would probably have just spent the extra money on more squad players who wouldn't really have improved us.

Better to live within our means, trying to improve gradually, rather than all or nothing.
