He certainly didn't suggest that the only reason Worthington was in the job was financial. He believes that whilst he retains the support of the players that they will still back him to pull it around.
He basically asked me what my opions were, and then after patiently listening he gave his counter argument for Worthington to stay. Quite obviously the situation is never as simple as just 'sacking the manager' - Doncaster was merely pointing out the severe financial ramifiactions of removing the managerial and coaching staff, and replacing them of course. I would be somewhat worried if he were not worried about that! The financial reason was just one of his arguments against rushing to sack the manager.
We talked openly for at least ten minutes, and there is absolutely no question that him and the Board are doing exactly what they feel is right in the interests of NCFC. At the moment they still feel that the best course is to leave the current manager, and allow him to wheel and deal in January. They still see this as the better option than being a ?1million pounds poorer - and a good player lighter - with no guarantee that a new manager will immediately do better.
He did assure me however that the Board would not shy from making the tough call when they thought it right, that if it was truly in the best interests of the club then Worthington would go.
You have to admire the man for phoning me to discuss this. He was in no way unprofessional - he is a tremendous credit to the club and evidence that we truly have a remarkable board here. Any abuse of them on here is ridiculous. We may have differing opinions to them - but let's not forget that they are the people that have to deal with the consequences. I respect their opinion for now - and I just hope they are rewarded for their faith.
I trust that they will do their best for NCFC.
