Yesterdayaccording to me

Wasn't a particularly good performance but it was the best we've played for a long time. I wonder if people are more demanding then they used to be; I suspect that at this point in the championship season we'd have been happy with the performance.

Anyhow. How Luton got to be so high in the table, or put 4 goals past us is something of a mystery. Because they were frankly crap. Another mystery is where they got the officials, the linesmen were bad but the referee was absolutely appalling.

Player ratings
Green- 7.5 rarely tested but had a solid game, made some good saves and was dominant in the box. Only one crap kick out.
Drury-6 Solid if unspectacular. Probably benefitted from having another tackler in front og him
Wright-6 hairy early on but quite good when he got going. Doesn't offer as much going forward as Colin but far better defensively.
Davenport-7.5 Can we kidnap him from Spurs? Dominates, does well at covering for Doc (although they do seem to leave a lot of space between themselves sometime)
Doherty-6 makes mistakes and sometimes gets caught out but very strong and hard to get past. Needs a partner who can organise him, as such the idea of a cb partnership with Colin makes me feel ill.
Hughes-7 played well within his limitations. Nice to see him get a goal it's about time. Complete nutter, celebrated making a good tackle in front of the community stand.
Safri-8 makes the team tick
Etuhu-7 reminds me of Hughes. Not very classy but strong quick and undoubtedly a threat. Probably won't win games but will give Safri a lot of help. Nice to see him applaud the fans at the end.
Thorne-6 Didn't look very dangerous, but Deano played very well suggesting the partnership has a future.
Hucks-7 looks far better when he doesnt have to tarck back and make tackles. Tortured defence and finished well.
Deano-9 Sheer class. Also very brave. Alas appears slightly fragile.

Subs
Hendo-6 very willing, causes opponents a lot of trouble (was fouled virtually every time he had possession) and shows flashes of class. Alas is very small and lacks composure.
Fleming-7 Not really a right back but put in a decent performance.

In general. Must try and get Davenport permenantly. Failing that, id go with Doc and Shacks with Flem as backup. Shacks is good at organising the defence which will help Doc. Wright and Etuhu both took time to get going but looked useful when they did. The Safri/Hughes/Etuhu midfield certainly has potential, especially as it reduces the physical load on Safri and defnsive responsiblities of Hucks. TBH I think Deano will play well with most partners, we just need to get one of our other forwards scoring regularly
