I don't think we can have nailed down the permanent signing - otherwise, as you say, the transfer window doesn't really exist.

It must surely be the case that IF someone else wanted him in Jan, and IF he wanted to go there rather than here, then whatever we've signed isn't actually enforceable.

Or am I missing something?
