If we throw away the blind optimism/pessimism, we know what's going to happen

to an extent.

There'll be all the right noises from players, managers and fans alike in advance of the WBA game. Then we'll kick off and the hard facts will once again be plain to see. We won't offer much going forward and the danger of WBA scoring will be much greater than the chance of us doing so. Suddenly, a 'must victory' will turn into a 'must not lose' mid-game, and we either sigh relief at a point or mourn another defeat.

Following that, heads will be tuned into the other games. We'll know deep down that we've done nothing to deserve survival (everyone else is scrapping whilst we appear to be laboured and of ideas) but nonetheless, we'll pray that Wigan/Newcastle/Sunderland suffer an almighty collapse and somehow save our bacon.

Not even going to mentino Man City. The way Hughton sends us out for away matches, they'll pick us off like a training match and will walk it.

Maybe I haven't discarded the pessimism at all. This is what i'm convinced will happen though. The only chance of beating West Brom is that a) they've already got one foor in the Maldives and b) we have some serious luck in front of goal.
