and in the case of football, it seems a team becomes like it's manager.
I'm devastated to watch this, I really am. A team that has become a spineless bunch of listless losers, moping around with so much caution that they're doing a good job of sucking the soul out of the Premier League.
Compare us to Wigan, who throw themselves at it 100%. No guts, no glory. They just beat WBA away - if we can't beat them at home then we deserve everything we get.
Compare us to Sunderland, who identified the rot and saw a need to make a change. Norwich decided otherwise and decided to let the decay continue.
Compare us to Aston Villa, who despite some pretty horrofic results have positively pursued every game and are finally being rewarded.
These teams around us want it. They have pride, integrity, passion, energy, they'll do whatever it takes to survive.
Then there's little Chrissy Hughton and his boys in yellow. Humble, passive, don't like to upset people, like a wounded rabbit limping towards it's burrow as the greyhounds steam in.
Sure, we may still stay up but that would not hide the situation we're in. Hughton has to go as soon as this season ends. His only saving grace has been his decent start, but since then the side has consistently regressed into an abject outfit, barely incapable of managing a shot on goal.
Sorry that this is so pessimistic and raw, but I have completely lost faith in Hughton being the man to take this club forward.
