Have any other teams...

gone down to League One in similar circumstances in the past few years?

Obviously Forest went down and Derby went close, but those two teams had severe financial problems. We are pretty healthy (in terms of football clubs) yet we could easily drop down. Were Man City in a bad way financially when they got relegated?
