Two things.

1) I think he's named after somebody's Mum.

2) People at Ms AB's work kicked-off about a proposed charity day (wear casual dress and donate a pound for the privilege I think) in aid of the south-asia earthquake appeal on the grounds that they didn't want to "give them money so they can buy bombs to blow us up". Unpleasant business all round that, caused no end of ruptions.
