The difference is

a) Strength in depth, mostly from players acquired cheaply or for free,
b) Two really good central midfielders (whereas we have one good CM who admittedly isn't as good as either), and
c) A much better manager.

I see no reason, why, on paper, we shouldn't be as good as they are if we made 4 or 5 intelligent signings. Which Worthington clearly isn't going to do. The squad really isn't as far off being promotion contenders as you suggest IMO.
