Trouble I found with a lot of the indie culture in Manc was that it's stuck in its own history, really - all the indie clubs will play endless Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, Charlatans - all the 'Madchester' stuff. You'll hear some Oasis and the occasional Smiths/New Order but really it's like stepping back into 1989.

There are loads of fantastic record shops, though (I really miss Vinyl Exchange) and plenty of decent gig venues. And Performance are well worth the effort - take a look at www.weareperformance.co.uk if you like ...
