Last nights AGM - one of the most dispiriting nights I have ever experienced as a City fan

Arrived full of hope that the shareholders would really give the board and Nigel a real feel of the groundswell of opinion that Worthy should go but instead we were treated to an endless stream of tweed jacket wearing 50 something blokes (who speak every year) with pre-prepared speeches all one by one giving their backing to Worthy to turn it round.

By the time the first dissenters voiced their opinions it was clear that the mood was not one or uprising and I am convinced many Worthy outers simply did not feel able to stand up and call for his head. This was not stage managed by the board these people really do exist and quite frankly I found the whole event profoundly frustrating. Worthy is now safe for another few weeks as the board will now think that is a true reflection of supporter opinion (you could see Delia's face lighting up as one by one more of these guys stood up and said he should be given time to turn it around).

Of course the alternative view is that actually supporter opinion is not that greatly in favour of getting rid of him and I (and others) have badly misjudged the mood but that is, if anything, even more depressing.

Well done to the blokes who:

1. Asked if Worthy still stood by his quote that we have a "wealth of midfielders" - and he did!

2. Criticised Worthy for the team playing long ball up to Ashton all the time.

3. Asked him what plan B is since what he's doing at the moment doesn't seem to be working - he got very prickly at this point.

4. Pointed out that despite what was being said in the room there were several thousad fans who were actually very angry and may not agree.

They tried but unfortunately our shareholders simply don't have it in them to rock the boat, nor do the fans at present and the board are not for turning. I for one am becoming resigned to the fact that worthy is going nowhere in the near future!
