Harry Kane blows into town on season-long loan from Spurs
NORWICH City have agreed a deadline day deal with Tottenham Hotspur to bring England Under-19 striker Harry Kane to Carrow Road on a season-long loan.
Kane becomes City Manager Chris Hughton?s ninth summer signing, joining Steven Whittaker, Jacob Butterfield, Michael Turner, Robert Snodgrass, Javier Garrido, Sebastien Bassong, Alex Tettey, and Mark Bunn in the Canaries? ranks.
Hughton told Canaries.co.uk: ?I'm delighted to bring in someone of the quality of Harry. He is a very talented young player and has bags of potential.
?He enjoys scoring goals as he shown coming through the ranks at Spurs and during some good loan spells as well.?
Ironically Hughton?s men are set to face Tottenham in the Barclays Premier League at White Hart Lane on Saturday ? although Kane will not be available to for the game, just two weeks after making his league debut for Andre Villas-Boas? side as an 86th minute substitute away to Newcastle.
A talented Walthamstow-born forward, Kane has had successful loan spells with Leyton Orient and Millwall over the past two seasons, and made his Spurs debut in a UEFA Europa League play-off game against Hearts in August, 2011.
The 19-year-old won many admirers during his loan with Orient, finding the net five times in 18 appearances during the second half of the 2010-11 campaign.
He then continued to flourish for Millwall last season, joining the Lions in January 2012 and scoring a further 10 times in 27 games as he struck up a fruitful partnership with Andy Keogh, helping to secure the side?s Championship status and winning the club?s Young Player of the Year award in the process.
Kane rose to prominence in the 2009-10 season, firing in 18 goals in just 22 games for Tottenham?s Under-18s, and subsequently went on to represent England at both Under-17 and 19 levels.
He was a key part of England?s march to the UEFA U19 European Championship semi-finals in the summer, and netted the winning goal in a crucial 2-1 victory over France to ensure his side advanced from the group stages.
