I cited the fact that Roy selects 'players that under achieve for big clubs', Downing, Henderson and Carroll fall under that bracket, Richards and Johnson do not.

I have no issue with good quality players who play for the big clubs going, Hart, Gerrard, A.Cole, Rooney, etc. Even Rio Ferdinand has a strong case to go ahead of many although he has long term injury issues.

You talk about Downing's main asset (crossing being wasted at Liverpool. 0 goals, 0 assists, 16% cross completetion this season. I think you are overrating him just a tad. He has 26 goals and 23 assists in 263 prem appearances, that's mediocre by any definition.

The argument for Leon Britton being selected is that his style of play is suited to international football, possession play, short passing etc. England need more players who can keep the ball. A player like this enables full backs to progress up the pitch and get into attacking positions, therefore allowing positive, exciting football. He certainly deserves a shot ahead of Henderson.

Grant Holt, why not? Carroll has been poor this season and hardly has a a great dealo of international experience that puts him ahead of anybody else. His lack of quality ball control also encourages long balls which are generally a waste of time at international level. Holt gives you extra dimensions, a good touch, quality movement, finishing abilty along with the strength aerial qualities that Carroll posseses. I also agree that Crouch would have been a better option.

The argument for Adam Johnson not going because a lack of games is silly, if anything this is a good reason for him to go due to being fresher. I'm not one of those people who will argue Martin Kelly shouldn't go due to lack of game time, but because there are better options available.
