Here are my thoughts

Carroll - doesn't deserve to be in the squad, but we really are low on decent strikers. I would have had Crouch ahead of Carroll, but perhaps Roy sees potential in him to play a certain way.

Henderson - again, doesn't deserve a place, BUT Carrick effectively retired unless guaranteed a start, which means we had very few good available midfielders. Henderson might be one for the future, for all we know he could turn into a quality player.

Downing - Seems to be the next Heskey. Everyone ridicules him. Before he joined Liverpool I always think he played really well. At Liverpool he was playing right sided I think, to enable him to cut in and shoot, which didn't suit him. And his game is all about crossing, which when just Suarez up front, doesn't really work as a combo, does it?

Would have had A Johnson myself, but didn't play enough this season.

Kelly has no experience, but again how many times have I heard we should pick young hungry players who haven't been there, seen it and lost the appetite?
