Villa are, and almost certainly always will be, a bigger club than us. The biggest club in a much, much bigger city.

It was also a no-brainer for Lambert to join us from Colchester for the same reason so it works for us as well as against us.

Football is structured as a pyramid and there is a hierarchy of clubs based on size. There will always be bigger clubs than us either in size or money or both(fortunately currently a few less than there were a few years ago thanks to our current status).

The only alternative is an NFL style structure where the revenue is all shared equally but that only works where there is no pyramid and no promotion/relegation i.e. a closed shop with franchises. Which would arguably be worse, with the league deciding who gets to 'join the club'.
