Whoever comes in is going to have to get off to a flying start, otherwise there could be a lot of nitpicking and moaning early on in the next managers reign, that kind of negativity won't help the club.
Just look at Lambert's rein, over three years he has been pretty much flawless, fans have come to expect a certain level of competence when regarding tactics, signings and on field performances. We are now used to ultra flexible formations, what happens if the new man religiously uses 442 and is Worthy esque with subs? Fans have also become used to winning away from home while our signings have generally been very imaginative and exciting. We have now been conditioned to expect all round quality decision making skills which are a rarity in most managers. There's a lot for the new gaffer to live up to.
I'm really, really concerned that we could end up going through a cyclic phase of churning through lots of managers like many clubs do (Newcastle an obvious exception) after employing a successful long term manager. Hell, even Worthy, as average as he was, got replaced by a slew of incompetent successors before Lambert rescued the club, although we can't blame the fans for that!
Talking of rescuing the club, I'm confident that McNally will bring somebody decent in, I'm just concerned whether the fans will be patient enough to endure a potentially rocky start to next season after the previously near spotless 30 odd months under Lambert.
Whoever it is, satisfying or dissapointing, we must give him our full support. I?WT.
