Thank you Mr Lambert for three brilliant years. Clubs outside the top six or eight rarely have three brilliant years on the spin: for most of us, most season are either so-so, a bit disappointing or nightmarish. So, seriously, thank you for every part you played in that.

I'm not surprised you're moving on, and you won't be surprised that i wish you no goodwill whatsoever. The clubs move on. All the world's a football pitch, and all the players on it merely actors.

Ta-ta, and don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.

Now the really interesting part comes: can McNally do it again?
