anyone who wasn't aware at the Aston Villa home game to end the season that we were almost certainly at the high point of the cycle was living in crazy delusional land.
For a club of our size, if you get success you draw the attention of the bigger fish. Always. The 92/93 season and UEFA campaign led to us losing Walker, Fox & Sutton and the subsequent decline. It's the price you have to pay - if you'd been told 3 years ago how this would end would you have sacrificed the last 3 years success in order to stop it happening? No, you wouldn't.
And this is better than that previous example - while we were having success on the field in 92/3 we were going bust off it, which made the subsequent decline so bad. Now we are not, we are much better run financially and in decent shape.
And as far as Lambert goes, even if he walks out now we have still done probably done even better out of the last 3 years than him. If he hadn't come here in 2009 he'd still be a promising young mananger with a decent future, but as a club we'd have been absolutely f***ed. So he doesn't owe us anything.
