He could say 'I am aware of the speculation linking me to Aston Villa but I am not interested in that position at this point in time'

That doesn't rule him out of other possible jobs, just the Villa one.

The fact he hasn't said that suggests he might be interested, which is what has generated all the speculation. Therefore there is no point him blubing about it. It is his fault.
