Now I'm a bit shocked having been stuck at work till late and then coming home to holts news ...
Now we all know that there is no such thing as loyalty in football ... Not really so I would assume one of these possibilities must have happened .
Holt is highly regarded and the team captain, but he's 31 and has a string of clubs ( some successes and failures behind him ) . Footballers only do this for 2 reasons ... Money or success .. Or both.
It is likely that holt wants an improved contract at city, even if he has another good season next year and city stay up again, he knows that city will be established and will be able to attract better players and at 32 - 33 he's going to either be released on a free or sit on an extended contract on the bench.
If by some pure miracle holts agent has sniffed some interest from a "top" (ish) side he could be forgiven for seeing this as his last chance... Now I love holty but man u ain't commin a knocking ... But everton, villa or newcastle etc may be the chance he, to be fair deserves.
This therefore leads onto another possibility .... Lambert ... If our real prized asset goes .. Even if holt wants to stay .. A new manager will want his own stamp on the team and holt may not want to play for someone else, believe the club won't have the same ambition ... Or is just worried his face won't fit in the team he currently leads ...
Or ( and I hate to say it the most likely ) holt can't get a big club , can't get an extension or an improved contract and has been offered a huge amount of cash to sell out either for another low level prem club ( qpr) or to step down for huge cash to a top (ish) championship team .. West ham or the s**tty foxes
If not the last I actually wish the chap well ... What a servant he has been
