Ignoring sub appearances, we're looking at goal ratio per games started for Premier League games only.
Players in order of best games per goal ratio:
Defoe - Played 11(14) - Goals 11 - Ratio 1 per game
Rooney - Played 32(2) - Goals 27 - Ratio - 1 every 1.19 games
Holt - Played 24(12) - Goals 15 - Ratio: 1 every 1.6 games
Sturridge - Played 28(2) - Goals 11 - Ratio: 1 every 2.55 games
Welbeck - Played 23 (7) - Goals 9 - Ratio: 1 every 2.55 games
Crouch - Played 31(1) - Goals 10 - Ratio: 1 every 3.1 games
Carroll - Played 21(14) - Goals 4 - Ratio: 1 every 5.25 games
Zamora - Played 14(0) - Goals 2 - Ratio: 1 every 7 games
If you look at that you have to wonder how the hell either Zamora or Carroll are even being considered!
Would you guys take 4 or 5?
I think mine would be Rooney, Holt, Crouch, and Defoe if 4, if 5 then I'd probably take Welbeck along too rather than Sturridge for the following reasons:
1. Because I think he can offer more than Sturridge with his aerial presence as well as a bit of pace and..
2. Because he should have more of a link with Rooney upfront IF they were to be played together at any point after the first 2 games where Rooney is banned.
If you look at those stats then SURELY Holt has to go? Would be a complete joke if he doesn't.
You could argue this...IF Holt played for any of the top 6 sides with that record and either Welbeck or Sturridge played for us with their current records then they're stand NO chance of going, so why should they even be considered? Sod the future of English football, play the best XI who are good enough and in form NOW!
