my issue is and this not directed at Ruddy but all goalkeepers

I know its a decision which has to made in a split second

But in a situation like what Ruddy found himself in on saturday unless you are very certain you are going to get the ball why go for it

the chances of getting the ball are slim
the probability of conceding a pen are high
and once a pen is given its almost 100% the keeper is sent off and then their is the suspension

Better to try and force the player into a shoot and the possibility of missing and the team keeps 11 players on the pitch
