that people were fed up playing the Andorras and Faroes etc, suggesting tournemnts should focus on the strongest teams and that no-one cares for game sinvoving no-hopers. But isn't that exactly WHY we don't have a "champions only, knockout" European Cup any more?
You would have about 50 teams (however many countries are UEFA affiliated these days) which would comprise - this year - Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter, Bayern and 46 (harshly, but probably honestly) also rans. No Real Madrid, Man U, Arsenal, Ac Milan etc How many attractive ties would that generate? If it was seeded, none until the semi finals. I agree it would be more utopian but would you REALLY be more interested in a tournament like that?
