It's all in the research!

Having good background knowledge of a subject to start with really helps. I couldn't do one on French football as I don't currently read/speak the language well enough, or know enough about the pre-1970s history of it.

With Fash I'm lucky enough to know Norwich of the time and English football/social politics/LGBT issues of the 1980s, immigration issues of the post-war period and the contemporary gay football scene, all of which will hopefully help me with I return to it - I think it's really a matter of finding a project that you're passionate and knowledgeable about and then throwing yourself into it ...
