Surely the purpose of pre-season friendlies is not just to get

match fit but to practise the style of play we will most frequently use during the season in games that matter. Stuff playing a certain formation to beat Wigan in a one-off meaningless game - I would sooner we lost to them playing the leauge one style. Further evidence of management incompetence if you ask me....
