Tuesday

A refreshing change of tack for a post-match interview that could be expected, perhaps, in response to Tuesday night's CC humiliation?

"I think the bar of expectation has been set unrealistically high, really. You have to remember that this squad was assembled with bobbins and buttons. No-one is stupid enough to sprinkle pearls into the bargain basement clearance bin, as we have retrospectively found out to our inevitable peril.

The old saying goes 'if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys' - the last couple of games have shown that never was a truer word spoken. On a social level, monkeys have a lot of fun, but their ball skills are sadly deficient and they don't react well to criticism. World-beaters they patently are not, but in fairness a couple of them would make pretty darned good panel-beaters.

It's not so much the fact that the team needs more time to gel - it has to find its level first. That level plainly isn't League One - it may not even be League Two, but I'm sure we will find out what that level is in the fullness of time.

As long as we're still getting enough revenue from the turnstiles to pay the programme sellers, we'll soldier on with our long-term plan. Whatever that may be.
We've put smiles on the faces of many hundreds of thousands of people this week, for heavens sake!"
