A very impressive performance today. The team appear to have an air of confidence which I have not seen in a Norwich City team for a while.
A closely fought contest with City doing well to get back into it after going down twice early in each half. Towards the end City edged it and defended comfortably and deserverd the win. Although Wigan did virtually replace their whole team at half time.
Chippy was running things from the touchline, think Gunn was in the stands, But the team seemed to competently manage and organise themselves on the pitch which was impressive.
Full backs played extremely well and cancelled any threat from the flanks.
Seemed to start off 4-3-3 but soon reverted to a 4-5-1
Ratings.
Theoclitos 6: Had no chance with the goals, clinical Premiership finishing, didn't have much else to do really.
Dury 8: Solid and dependable, back to his old self, didn't give much away at all. Hope he can stay fit as he will be comfortable in League one.
Doc 7: Ususal performance from Doc, solid mostly but a few uneasy moments.
Spillane 7: Solid at the back, has given Gunny a real headache, I can't believe we have 5 permanent decent centre-backs in the squad. Wass gorn orn?!
Ostemober 8.5: MOM Outstanding performance. Gave nothing away on the right flank, looked great taking on players going forward, looked calm, composed and untroubled. Great persistance to set up the first go out of nothing.
Hughes 6: Pretty quiet, obviously hasn't gelled yet with the rest of the team. Got more into it in the 2nd half Very skinny legs.
Tewderjewuns 7: The big lad got stuck in. Was very vocal which is what we need, telling other players especially Martin where to go and what to do. Looks a promising signing.
Hoolahan 8: Was everywhere, frustrating and entertaining, lost the ball in his own half a couple of times, the first time led to their goal, but also had some great moments.
Whaley 7: Quiet first half, showed a bit more of what he is capable of in the 2nd half. Came close with a good effort and took his goal very well (which wasn't an easy chance).
Martin 8: Worked very hard and got his rewards with the goals. Caused problems for Melchiot constantly snapping at his heels. Also tracked back and defended well when required. Got a well-deserved ovation when substituted.
Holt 6.5: A tough game for him today. Showed some promise, will be more than a match for League One defenders.
Subs:
Gill 7.5: Was very impressed. Playing Conference level football two years ago but held his own against Premiership oppostion today. Some nice touches to keep play flowing and won the ball well. He has no neck.
Adeyemi 6.5: Not as good coming into the game as he was starting last week, nethertheless showed glimpses of promise and battled hard. Expecting good things from this lad.
Cody 6: Got busy but didn't really get much of the ball. Exchanged some nice passes with Wes and took out one of the centre-backs which was nice.
Cureton 6: Not much time to get involved but looked slow and not much of a threat.
All in all a very impressive and assured performance. It looked like two competitive Championship teams rather than Premier versus league one.
It was only a friendly but I can't help feeling optimistic for the season ahead.
