The rot started after we won promotion
Worthy bought players for the prem season that were never going to hang around if we got relegated - Helveg, Jonson etc.
Players from our promotion season were discarded instantly - Edworthy, Malky, etc.
Once we got relegated, our squad was depleted and we had rebuild that summer. As we had no decent players left (Helveg/Jonson etc ran back to Europe) we had to buy 7 new players that summer, resulting in panic buys like Hughes, Colin, Thorne, Robinson, Etuhu, etc etc.
Worthy wasted 2 years worth of parachute payments on poor buys and also ?2.75m on Earnshaw who, though a good signing, should have been spread better on 2/3 players, not 1.
Never recovered, players aint been good enough then, and since. Parachute money wasted by Worthy and we have been feeding on scraps since.
