Managers get jobs based on reputation

There isn't (in my opinion) much to being a manager. They all appear to have roughly the same skills and knowledge of football. Luck plays a huge part in how it goes for a manager at the time. The guys in the conference are not looked at as there are 100s of more famous men out there willing to take available jobs, so teams don't look out for unheard of conference managers. Also most of them are part time.

Nigel Clough will have got the job because 1. He has been doing a good job. 2. Sentiment at his father's great record (as you say) 3. A famous ex international.

Which is more than someone like Ince, Adams, Keane or Robson have - all of whom have only number 3.
