Lupoli vs Lita (and a ramble)
I don't think that Lita is/was the "answer" to our goalscoring problems. He's a talent, and his pace menaces defences, but he's too short to be an aerial target man (a shame with Bell delivering top crosses), I didn't see him as an intelligent footballer/creating space/chances for others, and with him as our main striker our offensive game was rather predictable. Lupoli is not so quick and he doesn't work as hard, but he seems more instinctive and a better finisher. He reminds me a bit of Mark Robins.
The key thing with Lupoli, possibly, is playing a more energetic/physical guy as the other striker. I'm not sure Sibierski fits the bill - he has been crocked for so long that retaining his (expensive) services here will be a risky option. The Carl Cort of 3-4 years ago would be good, but that seems a remote possibility now. So I think we need to find a new tall-ish striking option, not a star, just someone who can do a job for us at this level, lead the line and lay off the ball for Lupoli or advancing midfielders. With a more confident Hoolahan just behind the strikers more chances will come.
Another thing - I for one, am not happy at the prospect of losing Bell. Give him an aerial target man to aim for and his crosses will deliver chances. If the rumoured swap for the Coventry defender happens then I just hope the other guy is really good. We definitely do need another central defender (or two), but if he's any good then why would Coventry part with him like this? It's a worry, but then Roeder's judgement for "proper" signings has been pretty good so far.
We live in interesting times. There will be new faces. I've a feeling the FA Cup can turn our season round. We will beat Charlton at Carrow Road. Roll on this afternoon and a home draw for the next round.
