My personal highlight of 2008 cropped up very recently

Without getting into any debate on the rights or wrongs of speed cameras, can I suggest that some convictions obtained by them are bulls**t?

This one nabbed my daughter in September. She was upset, having tried to take extreme care, and asked me to go and look for the camera because she hadn't seen it - so I did, and if I hadn't been looking for it I'd have been caught as well, doing about 50 in conditions where 60+ would've been perfectly safe.

There's an argument for having this camera where it is for a few hours each day, as the road does become very congested at predictable hours. Outside of those hours you can be the only car moving along it, on a poker-straight dual carriageway with perfect vision in all directions. When it caught my daughter, the camera was positioned immediately in front of a road sign of exactly the same colour, which gave directions that you'd have needed to check.
