Reality check

OK, amid the post-derby high a few of you thought that I was being a misery t’other day. Well maybe the penny has now dropped.

Fact 1 – We ARE in s**t street. This season there will be no promotion, no play-offs and probably no mid-table mediocrity. The Great Escape is now on.

Some bright spark said our game at Plymouth is “one of those we should be winning”. Wrong, look at the league table. Plymouth (and Coventry as well) are doing well this season and we should not type-cast them as ‘easy points’. We do, however, need to take points off sides around us; that is what makes the real difference.

The match against Palace on New Year’s Day is a 9-pointer. It also starts a run of ten matches where only 3 are against sides in the top half of the table – THAT is where we must pick up points and, if it means that our FA Cup adventure this year ends in round 3 (sparing us needless injuries or suspensions) then so be it.

31 games left, at least 40 more points required.
