His girlfriend had miscarried, which is a traumactic thing for anyone, her or him. She might have not wanted anyone to know, and wanted Ireland to not make it public about not playing and staying with her

The whole thing was unfortunate, and badly handled by all parties for me, except sven, who looked in interviews to be towing the line but appeared to be favouring the players side
