They Were Seen As A Gentlemans Club Weren't They?

Ran by the Cobbold (?) family and with dignity and respect. Bobby Robson said the only time there was a crisis at Portman Road was if they ran out of sherry in the Boardroom!

Along with Blackburn, they had a reputation for being very olde world, ran the old fashioned way, treating visiting clubs and fans with respect, great hospitality and courtesy, I remember an old 1970's Football Focus feature on it.

All long, long gone now and a club thats a bit grubby, a bit nasty, a lot more Essex and certainly a lot more London than it could ever be gentle Suffol again. They might think the takeover is progress, maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but the feelings of envy and jealousy I felt towards them in the 70's and 80's are long, long gone now and to me, they're just another club now, Derby Day means little or nothing to me sadly-they could get promotion now and settle themselves in the Prem and it would barely register. Just another club.
