Hmm, not sure if I agree with that. Certainly, what happens there could go either way - and if it goes wrong, it ain't gonna be pretty. But I think it's Watford plus either West Brom or Wolves for the automatic spots (with the role reversal that, unlike in 2002, this time it's Wolves who are the mentally tough overachievers, and the Baggies who could blow it despite being a far more talented side). I already fancied Ipswich to make the top 6 even before yesterday's news - and it must be a lot more likely now.
So maybe it'll work out in the play-offs for them, maybe it won't - but even then, I doubt Wigan will be in contention next season if they come down, ditto Bolton. Derby should be, and Leeds are clearly capable of anything - but all in all, I'd say Ipswich have at least a 50-50 chance of getting into the Prem over the next 2 or 3 years if the deal is confirmed.
