its a shame most were directly after Souness (11 in a fantastic run) and in the Intertoto/UEFA cup (another 10 or so) the following year. He only actually managed 11 wins in his full season in charge.

Im not going to diss the job he did following souness cos 7th place finish is superb. However he took them over in 16th place and left them a season and a half later in 13th just 5 points off relegation - not exactly progress after a 20 million spend.

Im probably being harsh as not many managers have had success at Newcastle, but they got worse and worse apparantly as his reign continued.
