Considering we almost hired Phil Parkinson...
The disapproval of someone with Roeder's experience, however flawed, is beyond me.
There are some people who still think that Norwich are a top three Premiership side capable of beating Bayern Munich. To them, I say get over it. Football has moved on and we were left behind. Anyone who thinks the club is entitled to a manager of Paul Jewell's standard is as deluded as a Forest fan saying they deserve to be top of the Premiership now because they once went on an unbeaten run in 1978.
Fans can throw their dummies out of the pram and say we're not little old Norwich but, let's face it. We're not up to standard and regardless of Roeder's mistakes in the past, he is exactly the kind of manager we need to get the team back on the way to becoming a unit again. And I'm not saying we'll be little old Norwich forever but when you consider the difference between the your Oldham Athletics, QPRs and us who made up the top ten little over a decade ago, to the teams that occupy these positions now, anyone who truly believes we should be attracting those kinds of managers needs to give it a bit of a rethink.
Roeder is by all means not the most talented manager in the country, but he is thick-skinned, resilient, hard working and the strongest manager we've had in years. He's no Mike Walker and he's no John Bond but for the Norwich of 2007, considering our position in the country, our position in the league and considering we have absolutely nothing to offer him as a club, we are as much a gamble to Roeder's career as he is to us and I say good luck to him.
If the fans don't get behind him at Ipswich then, I hate to say it, but we have ourselves to blame as much as the board for our relegation.
