Are footballers really doing it (or not) for their boss though?
English football has always put a lot of weight on the influence of the manager (even the name we give it says a lot). But does the coach really determine whether elite sportspeople try as hard as they can or nor? We don’t tend to think this for tennis players or golfers. Why do we think that team sports players’ effort is determined by someone else?
