can’t sell him on surely. All they could do is ask Norwich to find him another destination but presumably that would be a breach of contract.

Surely they can’t do anything other than pay his wages, freeze him out and still have to buy him in the summer. And only then could they offload him but surely at a considerable immediate loss. This is of course the risk you take in agreeing to buy up front.
