at a time when (maybe) the Reserves meant slightly more. Still wasn't remotely a big thing though.
Similar sort of regional competitions used to happen throughout the country. To put in perspective the West Mids equivalent still exists. Whilst it could be won by Villa, Wolves, West Brom etc (and they do put in Youth Squads) recent winners have included the football massives that are Hednesford, Alvechurch and Stourbridge. Tbf winning the trophy is a very big thing for them and the same would have been true of some of the East Anglian winners.
