30th September 1940, also a Monday, my father and his parents were offered a different
room by their landlady in Balham. That night, the house was struck by a bomb and sadly the landlady died. It was her kindness of offering the safer room further in the house to the young family that saved my father's life. Dad remembered the walls of the hallway,having fallen in on each other he thought they looked like a tent. I have since visited the outside of the house, you can see where it's been rebuilt. Paid our respects and suffice to say there's a small bit of Dad there again.
