As matters stand

we're heading, more or less inevitably, for economic armageddon. Either the economy grows (a lot) or we spend (a lot) less. Probably both. Labour talks a lot about growth, very enthusiastically, but pretty much everything it thinks/does (I'll hold fire til the budget, but that's my current view) will have precisely the oppositive effect.

So basically, we're screwed.
